About me

Ester Cunill,

CBT Psychotherapist, MBACP

  • My qualifications include a specialisation in clinical and health psychology from Barcelona University, an MSc in CBT and an MA in Gender Studies, both earned in Goldsmiths University, London.

Certificate in relationship and family counselling .

  • I am a proud member of esteemed organizations such as the British Psychological Society (BPS), British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and a registered member of the the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I diligently adhere to their ethical guidelines to ensure the safe and effective delivery of my services to my clients.

I began my professional journey in 2013 with a degree in Psychology from Barcelona University, focusing on clinical health. After graduating, I worked at an eating disorder centre and then studied psychodynamics to better understand human behaviour.

Wanting to make a positive impact, especially for survivors of gender and domestic violence, I moved to London to get a Master’s degree in Gender Studies. I worked with charities supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence and modern slavery during this time.

For four years, I was part of Hestia's Modern Slavery Response Team, where I specialised in crisis and risk management. I also worked as a CBT Therapist at BCCS for two years, helping improve community mental health.

I then joined CAMHS and the Youth Offending Service as a CBT Mental Health Practitioner, supporting the mental well-being of young people at risk of exploitation. My job included mental health assessments in custody, interventions with young people and their families, and supervising other child well-being practitioners.

In my private clinic, I offer personalised, holistic therapy using various methods like Humanistic therapy, Attachment therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Compassionate-focused therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy. My goal is to help you achieve positive changes in how you think, feel, and behave. I work with both adults and adolescents, tailoring my approach to meet your specific needs and promote overall well-being.

My experiences have driven me to focus on understanding complex trauma and attachment issues, while my research interests look into the neurobiological roots of psychological disorders.

These experiences have shaped my deep commitment to tackling the toughest aspects of mental health. They've shown me the critical link between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and involvement in the criminal justice system, especially among young people. It's crucial to recognise the contextual risks, vulnerabilities, and intersections that significantly impact mental health. By understanding diverse identities and experiences, we can grasp the complex mix of factors affecting well-being and safety. Considering intersections like race, gender, sexuality, disability, and socioeconomic status amongst others, we can better tailor our mental health support to be inclusive, responsive, and effective for everyone.

In my practice, I focus on understanding, supporting, and enhancing your well-being. I take a thorough approach, offering a range of interventions to create a solution that fits your unique needs. With these interventions, you'll see consistent improvement in your well-being and a reduction in your symptoms. I invite you to join me on this transformative journey, putting your growth and healing first.

Working with diverse populations has profoundly shaped how I approach therapy. This relational approach allows me to respect the complexities of each person's lived experience and create a therapeutic environment built on empathy, understanding, and cultural awareness.
